Edward Albert Cunard, III
Our beloved son, Edward Albert Cunard III, age 52, died at our home in Oxford, Georgia last night, Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at about 8:00 p.m after battling bi-polar disorder and alcoholism for over 30 years. The disease finally won and Edward took his own life, never having shown any evidence of his intent. In fact, just that night, he grilled shish kebabs for our dinner. We openly admit his illness and addiction, realizing fully that mental health is not uncommon and treatment success rates are dismal.
Edward is the only son of Edward Albert Cunard and Patricia Clement Cunard of Oxford, Georgia. He is survived by his parents, sister Elizabeth Ansley Cunard Copeman (Paul) of Dudley, Georgia (formerly of Allentown), aunt Rebecca Clement Merritt (Thomas) of Monroe, Georgia and many cousins of Georgia, North Carolina, and New Jersey.
Edward, our first child, was born in Dearborn, Michigan on April 29, 1964. He attended and graduated grammar school at Allgood Elementary of Stone Mountain, Redan High School of Stone Mountain, Young Harris College of Young Harris, Georgia, and Southern Technical Institute of Cobb County, Georgia. At college he majored in computer sciences. After graduation, he began a career as a systems analyst and programmer, a profession in which he excelled and was esteemed. His computer skills were essential to his father’s genealogical and historical endeavors, without which, such projects would not have come to fruition. He never married, but through the years maintained close female companionship.
In spite of his illness, Edward was a caring son and uncle who loved his family immensely and who gave of himself in order to help with his parents’ needs.
Edward will be cremated at Reece Funeral Home in Jeffersonville, Georgia and the ashes later interred with his fraternal grandparents, Edward Albert Cunard, Sr. and Ruby Claire Hall Cunard Maxwell in the Danville Cemetery. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
We will miss him immensely but feel that he has finally found the peace that for him, was so elusive here on earth.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 Saturday May 28, 2016 in the funeral home.
