Janie Gladys Davis Whitaker
DANVILLE – Janie Gladys Davis Whitaker, 95 of Sanders-Whitaker Rd. passed away Wednesday in Cochran, GA
Services will be held Saturday October 31, 2015 at 11:00AM at Mount Zion Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. Dwayne Bedingfield and Elder Franklin Bryant will officiate.
Mrs. Whitaker was born in McIntyre (Wilkinson County) Georgia the daughter of the late Josh Baldwin Davis and Minerva Ann Narcissus Smith Davis. She was the wife of her loving husband James Buford “J.B.” Whitaker. Mrs. Whitaker was also known by many as “Mrs. Janie” and “Aunt Janie”. After graduating from Georgia-Alabama Business College, during the early years of WWII, she became one of the first employees at RAFB in the procurement division. When J.B. returned from the war, the two childhood sweethearts were married, and had their two children. Eventually she went to work for the USPS at Huber then Danville where she later retired. She loved being a Mother and Grandmother and being an active volunteer in her children and grandchildren’s schools. She loved baking cakes and decorating them for the neighborhood children at Huber, GA, as well as taking them all to church and Bible School at Stone Creek Baptist Church. She was at one time very active in the Order of the Eastern Star and was its Worthy Matron at one point. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her son James Davis “David” Whitaker. Her daughter Shari Whitaker (John) Dobbs. Four grandchildren, Steve (Rachel Wilson) Norris, Dave Whitaker, Jr., Dr. April Whitaker, MD, Tammy (Norris) and Bruce Marshall. Three Great Grandchildren, twins Caitlin Ruth Norris and Brook Louise Norris, Brinkley Whitaker Marshall. Among her other survivors are her Sister in Law Doris Cantrell, and Several Nieces and Nephews, including her beloved and loyal Niece Faye Mullis.
The family will receive friends from 10:00AM to 11:00Am Saturday before the service in the church.
